13th Sept 2009 So, the Indian Summer which we’ve all been promised is suddenly upon us! Ludlow has just held it’s famous annual Food Festival where thousands of foodies flocked the streets to sample some of the amazing local culinary delights on offer. As part of Tiger Lily’s contribution to the festivities we entered the Window Dressing Competition with a display depicting the Silk and Spice routes through Asia- we received a Highly Commended award which was very pleasing. Currently in store we have our highly popular Straw bags which have been leaping off the shelves. They come in a range of colours-Green, Blue, Pink, white, red and black. And at only £18 are an affordable way of spicing up your wardrobe. Our new range of handloom scarves are also proving a hit. Made by a small rural enterprise in Rajasthan they are woven on a handloom in a variety of colours. Competitively priced at £9.50 they will compliment any outfit. The awards, presented by Bob Wilson of Greenpeace and Glastonbury trading manager Dick Vernon, were presented with whistles, champagne and a joyous hullabaloo that attracted applause, curious glances and, in one instance, a rapturous round of hip hip hoorays. The criteria for winning were exacting. Bob Wilson explained: “We gave them questions about sustainability to see how they got rid of waste, what light bulbs and wood they used and to see who went the extra mile. The winners went beyond our requirements – they even taught us a few things! We’ve gathered a lot of valuable information for the future.” The silver award winners were Tiger Lily fair trade jewellery & accessories stall and Goodness Gracious Healthy Foods. Gold award winners, who come away with a free pitch at the next Glastonbury Festival and, for more temporal pleasure, a crate of champagne, were EcoGadgets and Chai Wallahs.
